We aim to cater for the needs of all visitors to our B&B based in our home, such as our buildings will allow. If there are any specific request please feel free to contact us either by phone or email.
Arrival and Parking
On arrival at Strand Cottage you will find that there are bays marked out on the drive for each vehicle. The drive is tarmac, and there are plans to cover the area between the drive and the front door which is presently gravel with a Yorkstone path. This work should be completed by the start of the 2008 season.
The drive is well lit with lamps along the side and a sensor light is located above the front door.
There are 3 steps into the house, the first two are each 16 cm (6 inches) and the last one is 14 cm (5 ½ inches). There are 15 steps up to the landing where our double ensuite room (with king size bed) and our single room with private facilities across the landing are located. Each of these rooms has a colour television and DVD player, a clock radio, a hairdryer and hot drinks tray. Towels, handwash, shower gels etc. are provided.
Our detached ground floor double or twin room has zip and link super king sized bed with memory foam mattresses. This room is approximately 6mtrs by 4mtrs, and has an ensuite bathroom with shower over the bath. If it would be helpful guests can enter the main building for breakfast through the kitchen at the back of the house where there is one shallow step. Entrance to the detached room is via the drive and then up a 14cm step onto a Yorkstone path. From there a step of 7 cm takes you into a doorwell which has a step of 15cm into the room.
All doors into the property are of standard width. Assistance with luggage will be offered whenever possible.
Dogs are permitted in the detached room but, unless assistance dogs must be put into your car, or our summerhouse during meal times. They may not be left in the room unattended at any time unless in a dog crate. Assistance dogs are permitted into the dining room but please notify us in advance.
Located at the bottom of the stairs is a bookcase with literature for many local attractions. Maps are available in each bedroom and full size maps on request to assist you in finding your way around our beautiful countryside. Each small map has local points of interest and places to eat marked on it. Menus for many of these places are kept in a folder in our lounge/dining room for guests perusal. A similar folder is also kept in the detached room. The lounge/dining room is available for guests to use each evening, and on request they are welcome to bring in food to eat in there. If the weather is inclement then a log fire will be lit on request for guests in the lounge.
Breakfast is served in the lounge/dining room at either 8.15 or 8.45, although on request may be served outside these times. A toddler seat is available but please let us know in advance if you require this. There are no public toilets at the B&B, only the ones belonging to each bedroom.
Located in each bedroom is a torch in case there is a power cut or other emergency. Fire extinguishers are located in the detached family room and on the landing and at the bottom of the stairs in the house. There is access to a flat roof if escape is necessary. Smoke alarms are located throughout the property and are tested on a weekly basis.
In the village there is a pub serving food which allows children and well behaved dogs into the dining room, and next door is the local pottery which was established in the 1800’s.
Outside the B&B - for guests convenience
There is a raised decking area which is accessed by one step down onto paving and two steps up to the deck. A summerhouse is available for guests use on the decking and smokers are welcome to sit outside on the deck to enjoy a cigarette whilst not inconveniencing non smokers. Smoking is not allowed inside the property. The views from this decking area are over the South Tyne Valley and are spectacular. There is a pond at the bottom of the garden so children must be supervised at all times.
